Cant Use Employment As Reference

Are you considering getting into trucking? Ask your questions to experienced drivers. What truck driving schools to attend, where and how to get a refresher course, who pays for truck driver training and who hires right out of truck school.

Cant Use Employment As Reference

Yes I know this sounds a bit out of the norm, but Im looking to apply for regional and get back into trucking,. No problem there. I realize I will need either a refresher or a whole new training because Ive been out of it for over 10 years. Not the problem either.
The problem Im finding here is how nearly every company needs a minimum of 3-5 years work history. Normally it wouldnt be an issue, but in my case it is.
I worked for over 8 years as an electrician with the same company. Drove dump truck for 2 1/2 years prior to that. But have only worked at my current job just under 2 years. My reason for leaving the 8 year job? I worked for my (now) ex-boyfriend, we were a team. Sounds like a real can of worms there doesnt it. It was a terrible break up and rather than go into details, Id rather he not know anything about my where abouts or who I work for, therefore, cant use him as a reference.
So....now what? Do I simply eliminate my employment with his company all those years? If the trucking company does (and some will) do a background, they will see and probably contact him. Not to mention there will be that 8 year gap. Or do I just forget about getting back into trucking altogether?
I love my current job and was thankful to even get it but the reality is am getting nowhere on part time hours and cant do another winter of 10-20 hour work week, but with the job market being so far down right now, cant simply just quit, either.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like your stay out of the way of this ex. Trucking is an industry that is mainly interested in your trucking carrer. Driving a dump truck will not help you find a OTR job. They are completely 2 different jobs. Go back to school and just simply start all over using your current job for reference.
Remember each day is an adventure.
